Gov't assures impartial probe of 32 deaths in ant-drug ops in Bulacan province

  MANILA – Twenty-five suspects were killed overnight on Thursday, on the second wave of police operations against criminality. This time, the anti-crime sweep was conducted in the country's capital. The deaths across Manila came after police held simultaneous drug busts in Bulacan province north of the capital and killed 32 drug suspects. More than 100 drug suspects were also arrested. Duterte lauded the anti-drug operations and called for the killing of more drug users and pushers to reduce the drug menace in the country. Superintendent Erwin Margarejo, spokesperson for the Manila Police District (MPD), said the "one time, big time" operation - the same term used to describe the operation in Bulacan - was meant to curtail the illegal drug trade in Manila and the commission of other crimes. According to Margarejo said the anti-crime sweep was conducted in Central Market area, Malate, Moriones, Sampaloc, Santa Ana, Pandacan and Ermita districts in downtown Manila and that the 25 suspects were killed after fighting it out with police. Eleven of those who died were alleged robbers while the others were drug users or pushers, Margarejo said. Margarejo also said 70 drug suspects were arrested by police. Meanwhile, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the government will do a "fair and impartial" inquiry into the deaths of drug suspects in Bulacan, following public outrage over the killings. Abella however pointed out those killed resisted arrest during the operations. Vice President Ma.
