26 fake Dubai restaurant licenses: Man lands in court

  DUBAI – An Egyptian man has landed in court for allegedly forging the trade licenses of 26 restaurants in Dubai. The Indian manager of the restaurant chain said that the Egyptian, 43, was tasked to renew the licenses and had charged the company Dh348,000 in alleged fees. The case unraveled after a representative from the Economic Department in Ras Al Khaimah visited the chain's head office in Dubai to alert company officials about failing to renew their trade licenses. The Indian manager testified that when they showed copies of their renewed licenses to the representative, “they told us that it’s fake”. Further investigation revealed that the licenses of other restaurants in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi were also not renewed. The manager said that when confronted, the Egyptian man claimed that he renewed the licenses, but that he later went into hiding. The trial resumes on January 20.
