  DUBAI – Three men have been forced to sleep on the streets of Abu Dhabi after they were reportedly duped by a recruitment agent who promised them jobs in the UAE. The trio, from India’s state of Tripura, said the Chennai-based agent promised them jobs that paid Dh1,500 per month. Ajith Runjan Majumdar, 44, told Khaleej Times that the “employment trap” tricked him, his 23-year-old son, and his son’s 26-year-old friend. Majumdar said that their group used their life savings to pay Dh6,800 each for an employment visa in the UAE, but that when they arrived at the airport, they were given a one-month tourist visa instead. The trio landed in Sharjah on September 8 and worked for a construction site there for more than a month without being paid. They were later moved to Fujairah. They were given one meal a day and were forced to sleep on the floor, Majumdar said at the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi where they have taken refuge after their ordeal. The Indian man said they had been sleeping outside a mosque in Abu Dhabi after their recruitment agent left them there when they could not pay  Dh3,000 for an employment visa stamp. Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri said the embassy is in touch with police in Tripura to catch the suspect.
