Dubai police nab 3 Saudi nationals for possession of 7 million meth pills; tip about one of the defendants led to arrest

  DUBAI - Police have arrested three Saudi men for possessing more than 7 million amphetamine pills and were charged in court. The apprehension of the three foreigners-two of whom were brothers and the other a 22-year-old tourist-came after the police received a tip about their plan to send the drugs to Saudi Arabia. Charges of possession of 1,183 kilograms of amphetamines, including crystal meth, and Captagon, with intention to distribute the drugs were filed against the three Saudi men. One of the defendants was charged for using marijuana. The three defendants denied possession of the drugs but one of them admitted using marijuana in another place but not in the UAE. Police said prior to the arrest of the three foreigners, they received a tip about tourist who had the prohibited drugs and was going to deliver it to another man who would bring them to Saudi Arabia. "We knew he was part of a gang that receives and smuggled drugs to Saudi. We monitored him near Dragonmart and he met with the other defendants, who gave him four bags, before they went on their way," police said. Police first arrested the tourist in Al Rigga, Deira and found 135.8kg of methamphetamine in his car and then apprehended the two brothers in a villa in Al Warqa. Police found a large stash of drugs in one of the villa's rooms. Meanwhile, another hearing on the case is set for January 3.
