More than 300 Abu Dhabi workers in limbo, living on scraps
DUBAI – More than 300 workers are living in limbo in Abu Dhabi after the catering company they worked for stopped giving them wages for more than five months, according to a report.
The workers for Al Wasita Emirates Catering Services said they are surviving on scraps from nearby supermarkets and are forced to live in a two-storey villa, according to Khaleej Times.
The power and water supply to the villa have also been disconnected and they have been told to move out in 24 hours, they told the newspaper.
The men were working and cleaners, maintenance staff, office boys, chefs and drivers for the catering company in Mussafah.
Egyptian chef Mohammed Abdul said the company has also stopped sending them food.
Indian Ambassador Navdeep Singh Suri said that officials of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation have sent an inspector to the camp to help restore the water and electricity supply.
