300 million people to hunt for jobs: World Bank president

  DUBAI – By 2030, the gap in job availability around the world will widen, with 300 million young people expected to hunt for jobs, the World Bank president said. “The problem of creating new jobs is with us right now,” Jim Yong Kim told delegates at the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday. Kim said that as many as 150 million people will be unemployed in the coming years as artificial intelligence and automation replace low-skilled jobs. “Fifty per cent of all jobs today will be eliminated by automation. Sixty-five per cent of all primary students will do jobs that don’t exist today. How we train people will have to change,” he said. A lot of people may be in for major disappointments in the years ahead unless governments act now to address the issue. “What happens when aspirations go up and all the jobs go away?” he asked.
