Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt hoping for a positive response from Doha to demands

  JEDDAH – Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt hope that Qatar has responded favorably to the coalition's demands to end the diplomatic crisis engulfing the region. A WAM report said Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Bin Ahmad Al Jubeir issued the statement during a press conference after meeting with visiting German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, adding that Germany supports the coalition's demand for Doha to stop supporting terrorism. Al Jubeir also said the four Arab countries want "best relations" with Doha. The Saudi Press Agency quoted Al Jubeir as saying: "The four countries are keen to build the best relations with our brothers in Qatar. The aim of the measures that have been taken is to change the policies of Qatar, which we consider to be detrimental to Qatar, the countries of the region and the world." "Then, we will take the appropriate attitude towards them," Al Jubeir added. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt earlier cut diplomatic ties as well as land, sea and air links with Doha because of Qatar's alleged support to terrorism, an accusation dismissed by Qatari officials as baseless. The four countries had sent Doha a list of demands in order to end the crisis and among the key demands are: reduction of ties with Iran, closure of the Al Jazeera news network and affiliates, and for Doha to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the four countries. The coalition gave Doha 10 days to comply with the demands but extended Monday's deadline to tomorrow (Wednesday) following a request from Kuwait, which is acting as mediator between Doha and the four countries. Qatar has sent a response to Kuwait. The ministers of the four countries will meet in Cairo on Wednesday to talk about Qatar. Meanwhile, Al Jubeir said he and Gabriel discussed a wide range of issues, including strengthening economic relations between Saudi Arabia and German, and regional developments in the Middle East.
