Doha given 10 days to comply with 13 demands that included closure of Al Jazeera news network

  DUBAI - The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt have sent Qatar a list of 13 demands that Doha needs to comply within 10 days. Among the demands contained in the list, a copy of which was obtained by CNN, is the closure of Qatar's Al Jazeera news network and its affiliates. CNN said Qatari officials said the list is authentic and some of the key demands aside from closing Al Jazeera are: stopping the development of a Turkish base in Qatar; reducing diplomatic relations with Iran; cutting ties with extremist groups; stop interfering the affairs of the four countries; and stop giving Qatari nationality to citizens of the four Arab states. The four countries had cut diplomatic ties with Doha over its alleged support to terror groups and to Iran. According to CNN, the Qatari foreign ministry said it is studying the demands and would give its official response to Kuwait, which has been acting as mediator between Doha and the four nations. However, Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed Al-Thani, director of Qatar's Government Communication Office, said the demands confirm what Doha has said from the beginning – that the cutting off of diplomatic ties by the four countries "has nothing to do with combating terrorism, (but) it is about limiting Qatar's sovereignty, and outsourcing our foreign policy" while Qatar's National Human Rights Committee said the demands violate international human rights conventions In an article tweeted by Qatar News Agency, the committee said: "NHRC noted that Qatar's acceptance of these demands and conditions would subject the country to international accountability and violate its obligations on human rights conventions. In this context NHRC urged the state of Qatar not to accept those demands." The committee also raised concerns about the closure of Al Jazeera and its affiliates, citizenship rights and extraditions.
