4 Big Ticket winners share secrets to winning

What does it take to win Big Ticket Abu Dhabi? Four winners of the draw have shared their personal stories and secrets to winning in a first-of-its-kind discussion at Dubai Design District. The event on Tuesday (July 5) featured Leena Jalal, Jacob Roy, Shahid Mahmood, and Safwan Nizameddin. Jalal, an Indian expatriate in Abu Dhabi, shared that she bought the ticket only days before the Big Ticket Abu Dhabi draw. She and her colleagues and friends pooled their money to buy the ticket. After months of trying, her investment finally paid off. Jalal said she is currently in talks with local charities to donate a percentage of her winnings, while the remaining amount will go towards supporting her family back home. Roy, another Indian expat residing in Abu Dhabi since 1990, said he and a group of 12 friends have been pitching in to purchase Big Ticket raffles on a monthly basis, for the last five years. On International Workers Day on May 1, Roy won Dh300,000 in Big Ticket. He said he will continue to buy raffle tickets in hopes of getting the grand prize. Mahmood, a Dubai-based Pakistani employee at a glass installation company, won Dh15 million after five years of purchasing Big Ticket raffles every month. He said will be splitting the prize with his friend who is currently residing in Pakistan. Big Ticket Abu Dhabi’s latest grand prize winner, Nizameddin, from Saint Kitts and Nevis, said his sixth sense kicked in when he got a call to inform him about his winning. The longtime resident of Abu Dhabi has been purchasing tickets every month for the past two years.
