Yagi intensified from a tropical storm to a deadly super typhoon and devastated Vietnam leaving at least four people dead and 78 injured after passing through Hainan, China, and the Philippines. Super Typhoon Yagi hit the island districts of north Vietnam around 1pm (10am UAE time) on Saturday. According to the Vietnamese authorities, Yagi has already claimed four lives and injured 78 more as of 5pm. The super typhoon had already taken the lives of at least two people in Hainan, China, and 16 in the Philippines, the first country it hit after it was formed in the east of the country earlier this week. Vietnam’s coastal city, Haiphong, home to 2 million people and major factories, was severely impacted by Typhoon Yagi. The storm caused power outages on Saturday, broke windows, and created waves up to three meters high. It also blew off metal roofs and knocked down thousands of trees, damaging many houses across northern Vietnam. Scientists say that stronger typhoons will be more frequent due to warmer oceans caused by climate change. FLE/Expat Media
