A deadly mass shooting occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, USA on Wednesday morning killing 4 people and injuring 9 others. Two 14-year-old students and two math teachers were killed, while nine others, including eight students and one teacher, were injured and taken to the hospital. The 14-year-old suspected shooter immediately surrendered and is currently in police custody, local officials in Georgia confirmed. A student revealed that the suspected shooter left the classroom at the start of their Algebra 1 class around 9:45am When he came back near the end of the class, he knocked on the door to be let in. Another student was about to open the door, but one student noticed the gun and stopped them. The shooter then went to the classroom next door and started shooting. The sheriff's department received the first reports of the shooting at around 10:20am According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation director, the gun used in Wednesday’s shooting was an AR-platform weapon. Moreover, Apalachee High School received a phone threat earlier that morning warning of shootings at five schools, with Apalachee being the first target. After the shooting, all schools in the district were placed on lockdown, and police were sent to all district high schools as a precaution. FLE/Expat Media
