44 Dubai food outlets shut down over 'high-risk' violations

DUBAI - Authorities have shut down 44 food outlets in Dubai after the establishments committed "high-risk violations". Sultan Ali Al Tahir, Head of Food Inspection Section at Dubai Municipality, said the outlets were temporarily shut down for not complying with food safety and hygiene rules. Authorities carried out 5,365 random inspections from January to April this year to check that food outlets complied with Dubai's food safety rules and regulations, said Al Tahir. “Many follow-up visits were also carried out by the section to focus on the low-ranking establishments in order to raise their technical and hygienic standards," he said. The Dubai Municipality urged the public to report any violations in food outlets to toll-free number 800900.
