476 fall prey to Abu Dhabi rental scams

ABU DHABI – Bogus landlords and property agents have victimised 476 tenants in Abu Dhabi in the past nine months, a senior prosecutor has said. Hassan Mohammad Al Hammadi, Head of the Financial Unit of the Public Prosecution Office at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said that in most cases, fraudsters offer a single home to several leasors at a  hugely discounted rental price before disappearing after collecting the money. Al Hammadi said that tenants can be safeguarded if they get the tenancy contract attested with Abu Dhabi Municipality and to check all documents of the landlord or agents. Attempted property fraud is a crime in the UAE that is punishable by two years in prison or a fine of up to Dh20,000. Scammers also face up to three years in jail or a Dh30,000 fine.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
