5 categories of visa holders allowed to stay in UAE after visa expiration or cancellation

The UAE’s updated visa system now allows five categories of visa holders to stay in the country for up to six months after their visa is expired or cancelled. Updates to the UAE’s visa system were announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationalisation, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). The authority urged the public to take advantage of the new visa benefits via its website or app, or apply in any of the customer happiness centres.

Visa holders who can stay in the country for up to six months after their visa expires or is cancelled:

1. Golden Visa holders and family under their sponsorship 2. Green Visa holders and family under their sponsorship 3. Widow or divorcee of residence visa holders 4. Students whose studies ended and who are sponsored by UAE-based university or college 5. Residence visa holders in professions ranked in the first and second level classification of the Ministry of Human resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

Visa holders who can stay for up to three months

The ICP also added two categories of visa holders who can stay in the UAE for up to three months after their visa expires or is cancelled: 1. Residence visa holders with professions in the third-level category of MOHRE 2. Property owners who obtained a long-term visa through their property

For visa holders with guarantor or sponsor

Meanwhile, the ICP has extended the grace period for visa holders with a guarantee or sponsor to stay in the country after their visa expires or is cancelled. The period is now extended to 60 days instead of 30 days. This applies to residence visa holders and family members under their sponsorship, domestic workers, and other visa holders with guarantor or sponsor.

Visa holders allowed to stay for 30 days

The ICP is also giving a 30-day grace period for a group of visa holders to stay in the country even after the expiration or cancellation of their visa. This applies to visa holders from countries hit by war or disasters, retiring expats, remote work visa holders and investors or business partners. ICA/Expat Media
