Top 5 causes of deadly fires in Dubai

  DUBAI - Residences, warehouses and even high-rise buildings were not spared from fire incidents in Dubai last year, with 465 total fire incidents recorded in that year alone, according to the Dubai Civil Defence. So what caused those deadly blaze? The Dubai Civil Defence listed top 5 common causes of fire incidents in the emirate.

5. Sparks from welding electrodes

welding Thirty-two per cent of the fires reported across Dubai last year occurred in commercial shops. One of the common causes of fires are sparks from welding works, which have started big blazes in workshops.

4. Oil used in kitchens

oil pan fire Oil is a flammable material to begin with, and when it is left unchecked in a pan with the fire on, it can combust and fuel a bigger fire, mostly in homes. Last year there were 126 fires that occurred in villas.

The Dubai Civil Defence said one of the top causes of fires in the emirates are candles and lighters. When they are used carelessly, especially around combustible objects like paper, then they can spark deadly fires.

2. Cigarette butts

cigarette butt Most fires caused by smoking materials start on beds or furniture, or in trash. Discarded cigarettes butts were the second most common cause of fire incidents that led to 14 fire incidents, seven deaths and 68 injuries in Dubai last year.
