50 arrested for illegal taxi service face up to Dh10,000 fine and jail time

   ABU DHABI – Fifty people offering illegal transport services in Abu Dhabi have been arrested, police said on Tuesday (August 23). Abu Dhabi Police said the 50 "carlift" drivers, all Asians, used their private cars as illegal taxis to transport passengers from the Abu Dhabi airport. Police said the illegal taxi drivers discreetly looked for passengers at Abu Dhabi airport's arrival terminal. Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Bu Rashid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the suspects' vehicles were also confiscated.
