55,000 new UAE jobs by 2022, says Microsoft

  DUBAI – There is good news for those hoping for a career in the technology industry: 55,000 jobs will open with Microsoft from now until 2022. Jaime Galviz, Microsoft’s chief operating officer for the Middle East and Africa, said at Gitex that automation will create more job opportunities for people. “These jobs will be created to work within a system of intelligence. More jobs will be created to promote efficiency through machine learning and artificial intelligence,” Galviz said. Opportunities include jobs for coders, data analysts and technicians to support automation. The International Data Corporation, in a report, forecast a need for 520,000 technology-related jobs in the region in the next five years. “The UAE has identified as having a shortage of coders and skilled engineers to work in government sectors,” Galviz said. According to a World Bank report, for every job created in the technology, automation and artificial intelligence sectors, four more related jobs will be created as a result.
