Three of the convicts fined Dh100,000 each by the Dubai Court of First Instance

  DUBAI – The Dubai Court of First Instance has sentenced six Bangladeshi men to spend the rest of their lives in jail for forcing two Indonesian women into the sex trade. One of them women died as she escaped from a room on a rooftop of a building in Dubai where she and her companion were kept by the convicts. Court records showed that two of the six defendants kidnapped the two women from their sponsor's house in Al Rashidiya in November 2015. They sold the two women to two other defendants in the case. The four defendants repeatedly raped the two women and forced them into prostitution. The two women were locked up in a room on the rooftop of a seven-storey building in Dubai. One of the women however plunged to her death after escaping from the rooftop room. The defendants pleaded not guilty to charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation when they appeared in court. The court rejected their denial of the charges and convicted them of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, rape, kidnap and confinement, assault, and running a flat at the Dubai International City as a brothel. Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi fined three of the defendants - a salesman, a jobless man and a businessman - Dh100,000 each. The six convicts will be deported after serving their prison terms. The court's ruling however is subject to appeal within 15 days.
