Report showed 75% of chief execs likely to make huge investments in coming year

  DUBAI - Eight out of ten CEOs in the UAE are "positive" or "very positive" about the business climate in the country, according to the Oxford Business Group's first Business Barometer Survey. The survey also showed that 75 percent of the chief executives that took part in the survey said their company is "likely" or very likely" going to make a "significant investment" in the UAE in the next 12 months. The OBG conducted the survey involving chief executives from various sectors in order to measure business sentiment and the report said the UAE's "many strengths continue to weigh favorably against the impact of external headwinds on the country's economy." The challenges mentioned in the survey were: global commodity price fluctuations, currency volatility, slowdown in China, security and the opening up of Iran "as possible factors that could affect the local economy in the short-to-medium term." According to Oliver Cornock, OBG editor-in-chief and managing editor for the Middle East, the survey showed that the UAE was meeting the challenges head-on due to its world-class infrastructure and tourism offerings, significant financial reserves and reputation as a safe financial and business haven. Cornock also said the survey "speaks of the underlying, long-term confidence CEOs have in the UAE" and "underlines the identified, but as-yet-unrealized potential that the country offers."
