86% of employees aim for remote jobs in 2023: report

A whopping 86 percent of employees in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are looking for remote work this year, a recent study has found. The statistic was shared by ALX at the Talent Track during the Startups Without Borders Summit 2023. The report echoes a similar survey by recruitment specialists Michael Page that suggest majority of workers are looking for part time or full-time remote jobs. “Millions of employees found themselves working from home for the first time during Covid-19 pandemic – and our survey suggests that a majority would like to continue with this arrangement,” according to Michael Page. In the UAE, LinkedIn reported a 156 percent increase in postings for remote jobs. The platform also noted a spike in remote jobs views, with the UAE recording an increase of 287 percent. Overall remote job applications also increased per country, and the UAE saw the highest increase in remote job applications at 293 percent. In the UAE, the top remote jobs applied for are sales executive (1,245 percent), customer support representative (649 percent), business development manager (509 percent), administrative assistant (245 percent) and marketing manager (187 percent). When asked what type of contract they are willing to consider for their next position, the majority (76 percent) said they would prefer a permanent position. A small number (27 percent) would be happy with any kind of role, while 19 percent said they would like a fixed-term or temporary contract. As for their ideal company size, 44 percent said they prefer working in a middle-sized firm, while 42 percent would be interested in working for large organisations.
