Authorities in Sharjah have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a landfill in the Al Saja’a area, prompting a search for the mother who abandoned the infant. A Sharjah Police official confirmed that the baby, a fully developed girl, was found without any clothing, with the placenta still attached. The circumstances suggest that she was discarded shortly after birth. Municipal workers made the shocking discovery on January 27 during their routine waste collection and disposal rounds. The body was found at approximately 5pm and was immediately reported to the authorities. Police officers arrived at the scene and secured the area before transferring the remains to a hospital. A forensic examination was ordered to determine the cause and time of death. Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify the mother. Investigators are reviewing security footage and tracing potential medical records that could provide clues. Under UAE law, child abandonment is a serious criminal offense. Those found guilty of such acts face severe legal consequences, including imprisonment. Authorities reminded residents that confidential support is available for mothers experiencing unwanted pregnancies or difficult circumstances. “There are always better options than abandoning a child,” a social worker noted. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to contact Sharjah Police through official channels. ICA/Expat Media
