Abu Dhabi: Over 10,000 have registered to become organ donors since 2016

Since the UAE implemented a law permitting organ transplants from the living and the dead in 2016, more than 10,000 people in Abu Dhabi have registered to become organ donors. On Friday, the emirate's Department of Health revealed the landmark figure and encouraged more people to enroll in the program. It stated that individuals from different nations, backgrounds, and ages had signed up. In November, the country launched the National Programme for Organ Donation and Transplantation — or Hayat, which means life. The program's goal is to get community members involved to help improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from organ failure. Donating organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and pancreas can save up to eight lives. To broaden its reach, the emirate's Department of Health has organized several community events and activities, including the Zayed Charity Marathon and the Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022.
