Abu Dhabi has expanded its toll road network with the activation of two new gates under the Darb system starting Monday (May 4), as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion across key routes. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), affiliated with the Department of Municipalities and Transport, confirmed that the new toll gates will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in coordination with Q Mobility. Authorities said the move is aimed at enhancing road network efficiency, especially during peak hours, and supporting the emirate’s growing transport needs amid ongoing urban expansion. The two new Darb toll gates are located at: • Al Qurm Toll Gate: Situated on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street • Ghantoot Toll Gate: Located on Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Street in the Ghantoot area Each crossing will cost Dh4, in line with Abu Dhabi’s existing toll system. Motorists will still have access to alternative routes. For Al Qurm, drivers can use Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street or Arabian Gulf Street, while for Ghantoot, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street serves as an alternative. The ITC said exemptions remain in place for one vehicle per eligible category, including senior citizens, People of Determination, low-income individuals, and retired citizens. The ITC said it will continue to monitor the impact of the new gates through periodic reviews to assess traffic patterns and ensure the system meets mobility requirements. ICA/Expat Media
