A passenger has won a compensation case against an airline after sustaining injuries from a defective seat on a flight from Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ruled that the airline must pay the passenger Dh10,000 for both physical and psychological damages after she was left injured when her seat was not properly secured. Court records show that the woman alerted the cabin crew about the faulty seat, but no action was taken. The defect caused her to sustain wounds, and upon landing, she sought immediate medical attention. She later underwent further treatment abroad before returning to the UAE for continued care. The passenger had originally demanded Dh50,000 in damages, including compensation for physical, material, and emotional suffering. The court, however, ruled that Dh10,000 was a fair and proportionate amount based on the evidence and medical reports submitted. “The passenger suffered material and moral damage as a result of the defect in the seat, which compromised her physical safety and caused her psychological distress, pain, and fear,” the court said in its ruling. The court emphasized that the compensation was meant to redress the damage without “excess or negligence.” ICA/Expat MediaFor all the latest news from the UAE and the world, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube page
