Abu Dhabi Al Maqta Bridge to undergo 7-month restoration

DUBAI – The iconic Al Maqta Bridge in Abu Dhabi will undergo a 7-month restoration work, according to the Abu Dhabi Municipality. The Al Maqta Bridge, which was built in 1968, will get a new layer of asphalt, fresh coat of paint on its blue arch, and an overhaul of its pedestrian crossings. The work is expected to be finished by October and will affect traffic flow in and around the area, according to the municipality. Al Maqta Bridge was the first bridge from Abu Dhabi island to mainland Abu Dhabi when it was built in the 60s. It only had a single arch, but later expanded to a dual crossing. The bridge was built by Austrian engineers Wagner Biro, the company that also created the Al Maktoum Bridge in Dubai. Abu Dhabi now has three bridges, after the Mussaffah Bridge was built in the 1970s and the Sheikh Zayed Bridge in 2010. ICA/Expat Media
