Abu Dhabi Attorney General bans media coverage of family murder case

  ABU DHABI – Abu Dhabi’s Attorney General has banned media coverage on the case of a man who murdered three members of his family. Ali Mohammed Alblooshi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, said the ban applies to all “written, audio and visual media as well as social media platforms”. It prohibits the mentioning of names of individuals involved until the case is referred to the court, as well as the expression of personal opinion or commentary on the matter. The ban came as the Public Prosecution started an investigation against a media outlet and an individual for “giving false information” about the case. Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department criticized reports that created “confusion in the community” due to the “rash and irresponsible” way of presenting information on the case. According to the department, the reports were not based on credible sources, and also failed to respect the privacy of the affected family. Abu Dhabi’s Attorney General said a decision on banning media coverage of the case is “dictated by legal precautions so as not to influence the course of the investigations or compromise the safety of the community”.
