Abu Dhabi authority shuts down store selling expired, defrosted food

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has shut down the GramBangla Foodstuff in Abu Dhabi for violations to public health, including selling expired or defrosted food labelled as fresh. The authority said it shut down the store due to “repeated violations of food safety requirements” and to ensure the safety of consumers. The authority said that the store committed “high-risk violations”, including selling expired food and defrosted chicken that was labelled as fresh. It also sold food items from unknown sources and without proper labels. According to ADFSA, the store will remain closed until it meets health and safety standards. Meanwhile, the authority said it will continue periodic inspections of all establishments to ensure that food safety standards are followed. The authority also urged the public to report violators via the toll-free number 800555, saying that reports will be handled with confidentiality. ICA/Expat Media
