Announcing new traffic rules, Abu Dhabi has banned motorcycle delivery riders from using the fast lane, or the left-most lane on roads with speed limits of 100km/h or more. According to authorities, delivery riders can only use the right lanes on these roads. For example, on 3-lane roads, they can use the two lanes from the right. According to the Joint Committee for Traffic Safety in Abu Dhabi, the new traffic rule is aimed at enhancing the safety of motorcyclists. The committee also aims to discourage dangerous driving of motorcycle delivery riders, including speeding on highways, swerving, and disregarding traffic instructions. Meanwhile, the Integrated Transport Centre of Abu Dhabi has developed a training for motorcycle delivery drivers to ensure that they are qualified to practice their jobs in the delivery sector. Drivers will be required to obtain a certificate of good conduct that must be renewed every year as a prerequisite for getting a professional motorcycle driving licence. Abu Dhabi is also developing designated rest stops and parking areas for delivery bikes, with more than 2,800 parking spots in Abu Dhabi and 200 in Al Ain. ICA/Expat Media
