The Abu Dhabi Canvas project will see the installation of hundreds of pieces of art across Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Canvas is set to breathe new life into the city’s public spaces by covering pedestrian crossings, delivery rider hubs, and utility boxes with art and murals. The initiative, led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in partnership with Mubadala and ADEK, will feature works from local artists, celebrating UAE’s rich culture. Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operational Affairs at DMT, emphasized that this initiative aims to make public spaces more vibrant, engaging, and reflective of the community. The initiative, which is an expansion of the Abu Dhabi Canvas project, will see the installation of hundreds of pieces of art across the city. Starting in the Rabdan district, the project will incorporate 17 murals, 26 crosswalks, and 15 utility boxes adorned with designs from Emirati artists, showcasing themes from Emirati heritage, including pearl diving, traditional dhow boats, and falcons. One of the most significant aspects of this initiative is its focus on promoting local artistic talent. Four delivery hubs will display artworks chosen from over 1,000 submissions by school students. These art pieces were featured at the National Art Expressions exhibition, highlighting Emirati values and identity. Abu Dhabi Canvas is poised to become a prominent public art initiative, enhancing the city's cultural landscape and creating a vibrant atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
