Number 1 car plate sells for Dh31 million to Emirati 'willing to pay any amount' at auction in Abu Dhabi

  ABU DHABI – Plate number 1 sold for a staggering Dh31 million at the recent Vanity Number Plate Auction in Abu Dhabi. The plate went to 32-year-old Emirati Abdullah Al Mehri, who said he was "willing to pay any amount" to outbid others at the auction on Saturday (November 19). The record for costliest number plate in the UAE still holds at Dh52.2 million, which was the amount that Emirati businessman Saeed Al Khoury paid for licence plate number 1 in Abu Dhabi in 2008. In Saturday's auction, 50 exclusive and unique vanity number plates were snapped up by bidders, including plate number 7, which was sold for Dh13,400,000 to Emirati businessman Abu Mohammad.
