Since the beginning of 2024, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has shut down 21 food establishments across the emirate, citing violations of public health regulations. These closures, which span Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, come as part of the authority’s ongoing effort to ensure food safety compliance. In September alone, ADAFSA ordered the administrative closure of six establishments, including a restaurant in Abu Dhabi City. Poor hygiene, improper food storage, and food handling issues were among the key violations observed. In one case, an establishment was closed after it was linked to a food poisoning incident, prompting immediate action to suspend operations. Two other facilities, a meat shop and a supermarket, were closed due to repeated safety violations. One was caught selling imported meat as local produce, while the other was found to be infested with cockroaches. Another supermarket was shuttered after multiple offenses, including displaying expired food products, posing significant risks to consumer health. The authority emphasized that the closures will remain in effect until each establishment addresses the issues that led to their suspension.
