Abu Dhabi Woman Wins Dh5,000 Lawsuit Over Harasser

The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases ordered a man to pay a woman Dh5,000 for causing material and moral damages through repeated phone calls. The woman filed a lawsuit seeking Dh50,000 from the man for the damages she suffered, including 12 percent legal interest from the final judgment date and asked him to cover fees and expenses. The woman claimed that the defendant's numerous phone calls caused her distress. The lawsuit escalated into a criminal case, resulting in the court imposing a Dh3,000 fine on the defendant as punishment. The court added that the plaintiff suffered material harm due to the defendant's actions, so she filed a criminal complaint with the Police and Transportation Department and followed up the penal cases through its end. The court ruled that the defendant must pay the plaintiff a total of Dh5,000 as compensation for both material and moral damages, along with covering fees and expenses. MFD/Expat Media
