The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases has ordered a man to pay a woman Dh25,000 in compensation, plus legal costs and fees, after finding him guilty of insulting and verbally abusing her. Court records show that the woman filed a lawsuit claiming she suffered harm when the defendant directed obscene and offensive remarks at her. Initially, the Court of First Instance acquitted the man, but the Public Prosecution appealed the decision. The appeals court later convicted him, imposing a Dh2,000 fine — a verdict upheld by the Court of Cassation. The woman then sought Dh60,000 in damages for both material and moral harm. In its ruling, the court awarded Dh25,000, deeming it adequate compensation for the emotional and moral distress caused by the defendant’s conduct. The court rejected her claim for material damages, citing lack of evidence of any financial loss.
