An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a man to pay Dh29,000 in compensation to an insurance company after he caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The ruling was handed down by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court, which also imposed deferred interest of 12 percent on the man’s payment. Court documents reveal that the man was responsible for a car accident that resulted in injuries to two individuals and damage to another vehicle. As a result, the insurance company filed a lawsuit to recover the amount it had paid out for the damages. The court upheld the insurance company's claim, ruling in favor of the plaintiff. The defendant was also ordered to cover litigation expenses and attorney's fees. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of driving under the influence in the UAE, where such actions are met with significant legal and financial consequences.
