A truck driver has been ordered by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court to pay Dh20,000 in compensation after running over a coworker at their workplace. The incident occurred while the driver was reversing a truck, failing to notice the victim behind the vehicle. The injured worker filed a lawsuit against four parties, including the driver, the truck’s owner, his employer, and the company where the incident occurred. The victim requested Dh51,000 in compensation for multiple bone fractures and a 10 percent permanent disability in his left foot. According to a medical report, he now experiences chronic pain and difficulty walking, standing, and running. The court found the driver liable for the injuries and noted that the criminal court had earlier fined him Dh3,000. The other three defendants were not held liable in the civil suit. The judge ruled: “The injuries have impacted the plaintiff’s ability to work and caused psychological harm. Compensation of Dh20,000 is appropriate to cover the physical and emotional damage.” The court rejected the request for legal interest, citing it as unnecessary. ICA/Expat Media
