An Abu Dhabi woman has been ordered to pay Dh10,000 in damages to a man she insulted over the phone, according to the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil and Administrative Court. The decision comes after the woman was previously convicted in a criminal case for her actions and fined Dh3,000. The case unfolded when the man filed a civil lawsuit, claiming the woman’s vulgar language caused him significant emotional distress. He initially sought Dh100,000 in damages to cover the moral harm he endured, as well as legal fees and other expenses. The court ruled that the woman’s offensive language, as established in the criminal judgment, had caused the plaintiff moral harm. As a result, she was ordered to pay a reduced compensation of Dh10,000. “The appellee’s mistake, as confirmed in the criminal case, led to tangible emotional distress for the plaintiff. The court finds this compensation adequate to address the damages incurred,” the court document stated.
