Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) has announced the expansion of the Sanadkom initiative to cover all expats' death-related expenses, offering comprehensive support to bereaved families during challenging times. Under the initiative, all costs associated with obtaining death certificates, embalming, transportation, and repatriation will now be fully covered for residents of the emirate. Previously available only to UAE nationals, the program reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to inclusivity and community welfare. "This initiative ensures that families can focus on grieving rather than navigating financial and bureaucratic hurdles," said Dr. Jamal Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH. Sanadkom streamlines the process for families, connecting seven government entities through a centralized platform. This includes the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre and the Judicial Department. Following the issuance of a death notice, the Sanadkom team reaches out to families with a text message outlining the services available. A dedicated representative assists with procedures, eliminating the need for families to visit multiple offices. Residents also benefit from services at healthcare facilities where their loved one passed away. “Our team works directly with hospital staff to ensure all formalities are completed seamlessly,” said Dr. Al Kaabi. Bereaved families can also opt for burial arrangements or repatriation, depending on their preferences. Costs are fully covered by the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an. The initiative has been widely praised by the community for its empathetic approach.“Sanadkom embodies the spirit of compassion and solidarity that Abu Dhabi stands for," a Sanadkom representative said.
