A fresh crackdown in Abu Dhabi targeted illegal partitions and crowded apartments and villas in Abu Dhabi Island, according to the Abu Dhabi City Municipality. Municipality inspectors carried out random checks of partitions that are not licensed by the municipality, considering them as health and safety hazards. The illegal partitions also lead to overcrowding, which is a serious violation that is punishable with a fine of up to Dh1 million. Authorities stressed that overcrowding and illegal partitions contribute to “unjustified population growth”, “distort the emirate's surroundings” and “put public health and safety at risk.” It urged the public to report violators to the Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
