The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) has imposed 32 administrative fines, totaling Dh328,000, since the implementation of the decision issued last April concerning the list of administrative penalties for violating environmental legislation. The biggest fine ever imposed was Dh50,000 for releasing pollutants into the maritime environment that generated unpleasant odors, odd colors, or a perceptible change in the temperature and turbulence of the emirate's seas. Other offenses included submitting inaccurate data to EAD, modifying data in licenses, and harming the soil, water, or air in protected areas. The Agency followed up with the violating entities to ensure that corrective steps to remove or reduce the causes were implemented. The decision to levy administrative fines was taken to strengthen EAD's regulatory and supervisory role and provide support tools for addressing activities and acts that harm the environment.
