A former employee has been ordered to pay Dh310,209 in damages after resigning from his job without providing the legally required notice, the Abu Dhabi Primary Labour Court ruled. The company sued the employee, demanding compensation for multiple violations, including Dh180,000 for leaving without notice, Dh23,225 in overpaid salary, Dh105,325 remaining from a company loan, Dh3,883 for an unreturned laptop, and Dh423 for excess phone charges. The company also sought a 9 percent interest from the date the case was filed, as well as legal fees. The employee had worked for about 11 months with a basic salary of Dh49,000 and a total monthly compensation of Dh90,000. However, he resigned without settling his financial obligations, the company claimed. The court appointed an independent accounting expert, who confirmed in his report that the employee still owed Dh121,825 in loan repayments, Dh23,225 from an overpaid salary, and the laptop's value as per the invoice. The court found the employee in breach of UAE Labour Law for failing to serve his notice period and ruled in favour of the company. He was ordered to repay the total amount of Dh310,209.
