Abu Dhabi extends travel ban for one week

DUBAI – The ban on travel in and out of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafrah has been extended for one more week starting on Tuesday (June 9). According to the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee in a statement carried by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the extended ban is to support mass testing efforts in the capital to “enhance the effectiveness of the expanded National Screening Programme, among a series of precautionary and preventive measures being taken to reduce contact, curb the spread of Covid-19, and protect the health and safety of all community members". The measure, which began on June 2 and was supposed to end on June 9, will now be extended until June 16. Residents of Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain and Al Dhafra can still travel within their cities before the 10pm to 6pm curfew. The measure covers all Abu Dhabi residents, including UAE nationals. Travel to these emirates will also be banned, with the exemption of those working in vital sectors, patients visiting hospitals and people heading to the airport. Individuals must apply for a permit from the Abu Dhabi Police through https://es.adpolice.gov.ae/en/movepermit https://www.expatmedia.net/abu-dhabi-movement-permits-mandatory-apply/2020/05/ The committee said the new measure is in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Health. In a statement carried by Abu Dhabi Government Media Office, authorities said the measure is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the disinfection drive. "This step... is in line with a series of precautionary and preventative measures being taken to reduce contact, curb the spread of Covid-19, and protect the health and safety of all community members," authorities said. The announcement came as Abu Dhabi relaxed movement restrictions in malls and restaurants, increasing the customer capacity from 30 percent to 40 percent starting on June 1.
