A former supervisor of an Abu Dhabi food company has been ordered to pay Dh10,000 to compensate for defaming the company on Facebook. After resigning, the former employee made defamatory statements that harmed the company's reputation. According to court documents, the food company filed a lawsuit against its former employee, demanding that he pay Dh100,000 in compensation for moral and material damages caused by comments on his Facebook page. After reading the defamatory comments, the company filed a complaint with authorities and presented evidence to prosecutors. The company claimed that the man, who worked as a food supervisor for them, made negative and malicious comments about the company and its services to harm its public reputation. The criminal court had previously convicted the man after he was found guilty of defamation. The employer then filed a civil lawsuit against him, seeking compensation for the harm caused by his derogatory and malicious remarks. The Abu Dhabi Family and Civil and Administrative Claims Court decided that the defendant must pay the food company Dh10,000 after hearing from all parties. The man was also ordered to pay the plaintiff's legal fees. BKM/ Expat Media
