An Ethiopian woman who was badly injured in a gas explosion in Abu Dhabi has made a recovery and left the hospital after a year of intensive treatment. Nasriya Shure, a 30-year-old housemaid, was about to cook breakfast for her employers when the stove exploded during the January 2023 accident. She suffered third-degree burns in nearly 90 percent of her body. Doctors said it was a miracle she survived. An investigation revealed that a gas leak caused the explosion, which engulfed Shure in flames and also shattered the kitchen window. The accident left Shure in a coma for three months. Doctors worked very hard to keep her alive. She received round-the-clock care at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. Doctors said Shure was badly burnt that there was very little skin left that they could graft, however, they managed to make the highly complex surgery work. They also used artificial skin for areas around her joints to help her walk again. She was discharged more than a week ago after receiving extensive treatment that involved the help of burn specialists, plastic surgeons, physiotherapists and psychologists. Shure will be reunited with her two children. ICA/Expat MediaFor all the latest news from the UAE and the world, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube page
