The Abu Dhabi Primary Labour Court has ordered a private company to pay an employee Dh274,266 after he was denied his rightful end-of-service gratuity despite working for the firm for nearly 15 years. Court records show that the employee, who joined the company in 2005 on an indefinite-term contract, filed a lawsuit after his complaint to the Labour Department at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) failed to resolve the dispute. He claimed that he was owed Dh358,236, in addition to legal fees, based on his basic monthly salary of Dh21,000 and a total salary of Dh45,000. After reviewing his service record, the court determined that the employee had worked for 14 years, 6 months, and 22 days. It ruled that he was entitled to Dh274,266 in gratuity, ordering the company to pay the amount. The judgment underscores the importance of companies upholding their legal obligations under the UAE’s labour laws, which guarantee workers’ rights to gratuity upon the completion of their service.
