An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a housemaid to pay Dh10,000 in compensation after she was found guilty of physically and psychologically harming a child she was employed to care for. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court issued the ruling after the employer filed a lawsuit seeking Dh51,000 in damages, citing material and emotional harm to the child. The employer also requested 12 percent interest on the amount from the date of the lawsuit, along with court fees. Surveillance footage submitted to the court showed the maid maltreating the child, causing injuries—including visible damage to the child's leg. The court found that the maid had previously been fined Dh3,000 under a criminal judgment for the same incident and was ordered to pay legal fees. Despite the maid’s denial of any abuse—claiming she had only held the child by the leg while playing—the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff based on the evidence and earlier criminal judgment. The court stated: “The actions of the defendant caused both psychological and physical harm to the child, as shown by surveillance footage and confirmed in the criminal court’s ruling.” The final ruling granted Dh10,000 as compensation to cover the total damages caused to the child.
