Abu Dhabi improves rank in world’s top 100 best cities in 2020

DUBAI – The UAE capital of Abu Dhabi has improved its ranking in the world’s top 100 best cities in 2020 by placing 14th, up from 26th on the list in 2019. "The UAE’s second city passes on the ostentatious and pursues the culturally significant," according to the study by US consultancy firm Resonance. In the People category, Abu Dhabi ranked first in term of diversity. The emirate is home to hundreds of nationalities. "The more diverse a city’s population, the more it produces global ideas on a local scale," according to the study, which considers human capital as a city’s “most valuable resource”. The study looked at the quality of the place, product, programming, people, prosperity and promotion in compiling the list of the world’s best cities in 2020. It also included factors such as public safety, landmarks and attractions, culture, diversity, dining options, economic prosperity and weather. The survey from Resonance stated that Abu Dhabi has positioned itself as a “leading global arts and culture hub, with the world’s largest mosque and museums designed by just about every starchitect you can name." The UAE capital is home to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, considered the world's largest, as well as designer museums such as Louvre Abu Dhabi. Construction is underway for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Maritime Museum and Performing Arts Center. Meanwhile, the neighbouring emirate of Dubai ranked sixth in the world’s top 100 best cities for 2020. ICA/Expat Media
