An Indian expat has won Dh20 million while a Bangladeshi resident drove home a brand-new BMW X5 during Big Ticket’s Series 283 live draw on Tuesday (February 3). Shanthanu Shettigar, a 33-year-old shop in-charge from Karnataka who has been living in Muscat for eight years, was announced as the grand prize winner. His family recently returned to India, but he has continued trying his luck with Big Ticket for the past five years. “When I first moved to Muscat, many of my colleagues were purchasing Big Ticket, which encouraged me to give it a try,” Shanthanu said. “I started buying tickets on my own, and later began sharing tickets with a close friend. The ticket that brought me this win was one we purchased together.” He admitted he almost ignored the winning call. “Like most people, I receive a lot of spam calls, and I was fully absorbed in my work as well. I knew the live draw was taking place tonight, but I never imagined my name would be announced. When I realized it was real and that I had won, I was honestly speechless. It still hasn’t fully sunk in, but I’m extremely happy.” Shanthanu said he will be sharing his prize. “I will be splitting the prize with my friend, as we bought the ticket together. As for my share, this win was completely unexpected, so I want to take some time to think things through before deciding what to do next.” Meanwhile, Shahin Miah, a 32-year-old house driver from Bangladesh who has lived in Sharjah since 2008, won a premium BMW X5. “My friends had been buying Big Ticket for a long time, but I was never fully convinced at first,” Shahin said. “They kept encouraging me to join, and after a while, I agreed. This was only my third time participating, so winning has come as a complete surprise for all of us.” He recalled receiving the winning call while driving. “I was driving at the time, so I couldn’t fully understand what was happening. It all felt confusing at first. But once it sank in, the happiness really hit me. It’s an incredible feeling, and I’m truly very happy.” Shahin said he has not yet decided whether to keep the car or take the cash option, and plans to discuss it with his group. Big Ticket’s February campaign is now underway, offering a Dh15 million grand prize to be drawn on March 3. Five consolation prizes of Dh100,000 will also be awarded. Four weekly e-draws will take place throughout February, with each draw awarding Dh50,000 to four winners. The draws will be streamed live at 11am on the Big Ticket YouTube channel. The Dream Car Series continues, giving participants the chance to win a Range Rover Velar on March 3 and a Maserati Grecale on April 3.
