Abu Dhabi has issued its first-ever licence plate for a driverless delivery vehicle, marking a milestone in the emirate’s push toward smart mobility solutions. The new initiative is part of a pilot programme in Masdar City, launched by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) in collaboration with technology firm K2 and EMX, the logistics arm of 7X. The autonomous vehicles are developed by Autogo, a subsidiary of K2, and are designed to navigate urban streets and deliver orders efficiently without human drivers. Officials said the project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s ambitious target of ensuring 25 per cent of all trips in the emirate are made using smart transport solutions by 2040. The vehicles are also expected to reduce congestion and carbon emissions in city environments. Autogo plans to expand beyond Masdar City in the coming months, with wider deployment in public areas and partnerships with new stakeholders. The emirate is also working to localise the production of intelligent and autonomous systems under its Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries cluster.
