The Liwa sign in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region Municipality.

From Dubai’s Hatta, the Guinness World Record for the tallest landmark sign in the world has now moved to Abu Dhabi. The Guinness World Record and Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed on Thursday (May 30) that the record for the world’s tallest landmark sign now belongs to the Liwa sign. The Abu Dhabi landmark stands 23.5 metres tall on a hill that is 197 metres above sea level. The Liwa sign is taller than the Hollywood sign (13.7 metres) and Dubai’s Hatta sign (19.28 metres). The Liwa marker, located in the Al Dhafra Region Municipality, unseated Dubai’s Hatta less than a year after it was awarded the Guinness World Record just last September. With a world record to its name, the Liwa sign is expected to draw more visitors to the area, which is known for the Liwa Date Festival and the Liwa International Festival. ICA/Expat Media
