The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dh20,000 in compensation after assaulting another individual and damaging his mobile phone in a physical altercation. The court found the defendant guilty of both physically harming the victim and premeditatedly damaging his property. According to court documents, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit demanding compensation after the defendant punched him in the face and intentionally destroyed his phone, rendering it unusable. The plaintiff initially sought Dh4,599 to cover the cost of the phone, in addition to Dh20,000 for the physical and moral damages caused by the assault. The incident also left the plaintiff with injuries that required medical attention and forced him to take time off work for nearly 20 days. "The defendant’s actions caused not only financial loss but also significant physical and emotional distress," the plaintiff argued in court. The court had already convicted the defendant of the assault and fined him Dh5,000, in addition to Dh1,000 for the damage to the phone. However, the plaintiff was dissatisfied with the initial ruling and decided to pursue further compensation for the emotional and physical damages. After reviewing the case, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, ordering the defendant to pay Dh20,000 for the combined material and moral damages incurred due to the assault. ICA/Expat Media
